LOS ANGELES COUNTY : Marshals Win Round in Fight to Keep Jobs
- Share via
A Superior Court judge Monday denied Los Angeles County’s motion to dismiss a lawsuit brought by Municipal Court judges, who are fighting the elimination of the Marshal’s Office.
Judge Donald Smallwood ruled that there are significant issues to be resolved, and granted the judges’ group an opportunity to pursue their case.
The judges maintain that the county acted illegally when it abolished the office in a cost-cutting move last fall. The Board of Supervisors replaced the marshals with sheriff’s deputies to provide security and other services in courtrooms.
