ANGELS

The Angels did make one trade Friday, sending minor-league reliever Bob Gamez to the San Francisco Giants for outfielder Steve Hosey. Hosey, who hit .292 with 16 homers and 85 RBIs at triple-A Phoenix, is expected to open the season as the starting right fielder in triple-A Vancouver. “He’s in Bo’s shadow,” Rodgers said, “but our feeling was that we needed a right-handed hitter in triple-A in case something happens to Bo. Bo will probably be here one year at the most, anyway. If (Jackson) plays bad, we’ll get rid of him; and if he plays good, he’ll get rid of us.” . . . The Angels game against the Oakland Athletics was rained out, so what do they do for entertainment? DH Chili Davis gave left fielder Eduardo Perez a haircut. . . . Mark Leiter, who has had a mild strain of his lower back, was pushed back to Sunday. . . . Starter Joe Magrane, who isn’t expected to be ready until the end of April, was placed on the 15-day disabled list.
