U.S. Assesses Stiff Tariffs on Japanese Film Company: Fuji Photo Co., accused of selling its products at unfairly low prices in the United States, was hit with higher-than-expected punitive tariffs. In a preliminary ruling, the Commerce Department said it was imposing anti-dumping penalties of 321.23% to 360.95% against color photographic paper sold in the United States by Fuji. The case was just the latest in a series of trade disputes between the United States and Japan, but it will be the first in which punitive tariffs actually go into effect. Fuji will be required to begin paying higher duties immediately on its products shipped into the United States, in the form of either cash or bonds posted with the Customs Service.
