You Rarely See ‘Simers’ and ‘Perfect’ Together

The column “Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be QBs” [Oct. 25] has finally convinced me of what I’ve long suspected: T.J. Simers is the perfect football columnist for this non-football town. His unyieldingly cynical view of the modern game and its players consistently and precisely misses the point and value of athletic competition.
For a town with no football team, how appropriate for its newspaper to employ a columnist with no apparent love for the game. He might argue, I’m sure, that his attitude is born of just such a love for the sport at its purest, but such blatant hatefulness cannot be justified.
