UCI Women Finish Fourth at Big West Championships

The UC Irvine women’s cross-country team finished fourth in the Big West Conference Championships Saturday at Carbon Canyon Park in Brea.
Boise State was first with 25 points, 28 points ahead of second-place Utah State.
Melinda Campbell won the women’s 5,000-meter race in 17 minutes 56 seconds to lead Boise State, which had five runners in the top 10.
Jamie Blair finished sixth overall in 18:40 for UC Irvine.
Sarah MacDougall of Cal State Fullerton finished ninth in 18:46.
On the men’s side, UC Irvine finished fifth, 24 points ahead of sixth-place Cal State Fullerton.
UC Santa Barbara had 39 points to finish 32 points ahead of second-place Utah State.
Cormac Smith of Boise State won the men’s race in 25:06 over 8,000 meters.
Jorge Gutierrez finished 14th in 26:22 for UC Irvine.
In the Golden State Athletic Conference cross-country championships:
Concordia women finish third--Tricia Mattson placed third with a time of 18:51 over the 5,000-meter course around Upper Newport Bay to lead Concordia. Teammate Rachel Lafady finished fifth in 18:58.
With their top-five finishes, Mattson and Lafady qualified for the Nov. 15 NAIA national meet in Kenosha, Wis.
Monica Landa finished eighth in 19:05 for Southern California College.
Southern California College men finish fifth--Matt Wheeler took sixth with a time of 27:09 over 8,000 meters to lead SCC.
In Big West Conference women’s volleyball:
UC Irvine 3, CS Fullerton 0--The Anteaters picked up their second conference victory, 16-14, 15-11, 15-4. Anastasia Paveloff had a season-high 25 kills to lead UCI (7-18, 2-10).
LaCretia Smith had 23 kills and 14 digs for the Titans (12-14, 4-8).
