‘Cooler Place’ Named Hottest Ad Campaign

The Ventura Visitors & Convention Bureau’s “Cooler Place” advertising campaign has been named best advertising program by the Western Assn. of Convention & Visitors Bureaus.

The ad campaign, which began in October 1996 and is still running, promotes Ventura as “the cooler place” and encourages potential visitors to call for a pocket-size booklet titled “The 50 Coolest Places in Ventura.”

The campaign, created by Ahlman & Associates in Westlake Village, is used by the bureau in newspapers and magazines, on the radio and on billboards throughout Southern California.

“The phones instantly started ringing off the hook when this campaign began,” said Bill Clawson, the bureau’s executive director. “We had to run out and get another 10,000 copies of the booklet printed.”

The Western Assn. of Convention & Visitors Bureaus represents 110 tourism promotion organizations in 14 western states and two Canadian provinces.
