Council to Consider Fire Authority Plea
The City Council tonight will consider supporting the Orange County Fire Authority’s efforts to receive Proposition 172 revenue.
The statewide proposition, a half-cent sales tax approved by voters in 1993, was designated for public-safety agencies.
The Fire Authority contends it should have access to the money to help pay for its fire protection programs. Placentia is among 19 cities that contract with the Fire Authority for fire-protection services.
Fire officials have made requests to county officials to include the authority as an eligible agency for Proposition 172 money. But the officials have said the Fire Authority is not eligible.
City officials said they hope a resolution in support of the Fire Authority might help convince the county to change its stance.
The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. in the council chambers, 401 E. Chapman Ave.
