An Oxnard man was shot and seriously wounded Tuesday during a robbery in the 700 block of South Oxnard Boulevard.
Alejandro Avila, 30, was shot once in the chest about 4:40 a.m. after being chased by two men described as being between 17 and 20 years old, an Oxnard police spokesman said.
Avila told authorities that he was approached by the two suspects holding guns. The pair demanded his money and although Avila handed them his wallet and ran, the two ran after him. They caught up to him as he reached a pay phone.
Avila was able to dial 911 and ask for help. He was taken to St. John’s Regional Medical Center where he was listed in serious but stable condition.
Anyone with information about the incident can contact police at 385-7600.
