The city has opened a long-awaited $2.5-million community gymnasium.
“Since 1980, we have systematically rebuilt our parks, and now we have a very spacious gym with lots of windows,” said City Manager Gary Sloan. “We worked with Supervisor Don Knabe and the county provided the land while the city paid for the building.”
The facility at 15105 Alicante Road encompasses 13,000 square feet and contains an aerobics room and an 1,800-square-foot multipurpose floor that can be used for basketball, volleyball, badminton or paddle ball. The multipurpose room has a special rubberized sports floor designed to cushion the impact of running and jumping. Sloan said 300 youngsters wasted no time in signing up for youth basketball.
