Coaches Frustrated Over Ruling

TIMES STAFF WRITER

Marmonte League basketball coaches expressed frustration Wednesday that another transfer student has successfully made it to Simi Valley High.

“For some reason, Simi Valley has a way of getting what it wants all the time,” Royal Coach Larry Wiksell said in reaction to the decision of a three-man appeal panel granting eligibility to 6-foot-7 Ian Boys, a transfer from Buena. “I think Simi Valley more and more is making itself the black sheep of the league.”

Agoura Coach Bill Sanchez, one of the most vocal critics of the Pioneers, said he has accepted the situation. “With as many mercenaries as they have, I can’t wait to play them,” he said.

Over the past three seasons, Simi Valley has had players check in from Australia, Pomona, Winnetka and now Ventura.

Newbury Park guard Daniel Bobik expressed disappointment in Southern Section officials. “It’s real frustrating to see them come up with new players every year,” Bobik said. “I think the CIF is gutless.”

Simi Valley Coach Dean Bradshaw said he plans to ignore critics of the Pioneers’ program.

“We can’t worry about it,” Bradshaw said.
