A look at the Southern Section divisions in which Orange County’s large-school football teams compete (rankings are from Southern Section divisional polls):
DIVISION I
Santa Fe Springs St. Paul continues to stumble, and that should open the way for a team from either the South Coast or Sunset league to gain the division’s wild-card playoff berth. The 10th-ranked Swordsmen dropped to 6-3 and a tie for fourth place in the Del Rey League, with a game against No. 4 La Puente Bishop Amat still to go. That could open the door for the winner of Friday’s Marina-Edison game, or whoever is left out among Dana Hills, San Clemente and No. 9 Mission Viejo in the South Coast League.
