Concordia’s Hansen-Lester Wins Coaching Award

Concordia women’s cross-country Coach Joan Hansen-Lester was named Golden State Athletic Conference co-coach of the year with Westmont men’s coach Russell Smelley.
Hansen-Lester led the Eagles to their highest national ranking, finishing 22nd in the nation, and highest finish in the conference (third).

The Top Gun charity tennis tournament, which features $6,000 in prize money, began Saturday at SeaCliff Tennis Club in Huntington Beach.
More than 650 participants are expected in singles and doubles divisions ranging from 3.0 to open. The tournament continues today and concludes next Saturday and Sunday.
All proceeds from the tournament will go to the Huntington Youth Shelter and Family Resource Center.

Two county gymnasts, Chris Jannek, 11, and Curtis Wong, 12, have qualified for the National Future Stars Championships, Nov. 14, at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Jannek competes for the U.S. Gymnastics Training Center in Laguna Hills and Wong for the Eric Will Gymnastic Center in La Habra. They qualified for the national championships, which are part of the Junior Olympic Development Program, at a regional competition Oct. 18-19 in Fremont, Calif.
