Report Outlines Plan to Combat Hate Crimes

In conjunction with President Clinton’s conference on Hate Crimes in Washington, the Anti-Defamation League and local law enforcement officials released a report Monday in Los Angeles outlining ways to fight such crimes.
Titled “Hate Crime: ADL Blueprint for Action,” the report is a compilation of legislative, educational and training initiatives to combat hate on a national level.
“It is now a top priority of law enforcement, signaled by the president’s summit,” said David A. Lehrer, ADL regional director.
Sheriff Sherman Block, who listed hate crimes as one of five critical issues facing L.A. County residents, said his department created a Hate Crimes Task Force six months ago to deal with crimes of intolerance.
