City Urged to Build Memorial to Veterans

American Legion Post 72 is urging city officials to fund and build Anaheim’s first memorial to veterans.
“This would be a perpetual monument” to honor military service of the past and the future, said Don Baldwin, a post executive committee member.
Baldwin said Pearson Park would be the ideal location.
Mayor Tom Daly said he supports the idea: “We’re working to find the best location to create a fitting monument.”
City officials said there is no city money at this time earmarked for such a project. “We’re open to discussing it further, but funding does remain a concern,” city spokesman Bret Colson said.
Baldwin said veterans believe the city should pay for a memorial: “We think that the veterans have already funded this memorial by giving their lives and serving their country--and that some government source should find funding.”
