Nevada Las Vegas 96, Loyola Marymount 81--The Rebels took control almost from the start at Las Vegas, as Tyrone Nesby scored 25 points.
Freshman Kaspars Kambala had 20 points and 15 rebounds for the Rebels. Donovan Stewart added 17 points, Corky Ausborne 12 and Mark Dickel 12 points and 11 assists.
The Lions, led by Ben Ammerman with 17 points, got as close as eight points several times in the second half.
UNLV pulled away for good with 2:58 remaining after Stewart hit a 15-foot jumper for an 11-point lead.
Ammerman’s three-pointer on the Lions’ first basket of the game was their only lead.
