Orange Coast Women Favored to Win Title

The Orange Coast women’s team, which has won all eight invitationals it has competed in this season, is the favorite at the state meet Saturday at Woodward Park in Fresno.
The Pirates have dominated Southern California competition, scoring a record-low 26 points in dominating the Southern California Regional race Nov. 9.
Donna Harris of Orange Coast won the regional race. The Pirates’ other top runners are Christine Riel, Araceli Martinez, Mara Caples, Tahnee Thiel, Chiharu Kumagai and Penni Proffitt.
Orange Coast’s main competition is expected to be West Valley, which lost to the Pirates, 39-46, in the first race of the season in Fresno.

Football poll: Mt. San Antonio, which beat Long Beach, 24-21, took over the top spot in the weekly Southland poll. The Mounties are 10-0.
Bakersfield (8-1) fell to second after losing to Hancock, 16-13. Hancock (7-2) moved to third and El Camino (6-3) is fourth. Long Beach (7-2) is fifth, San Bernardino Valley (7-2) sixth, Santa Ana (6-3) seventh, West Los Angeles (7-2) eighth, Saddleback (6-3) ninth and Antelope Valley (6-3) is 10th.
