Mindy Gondrez lost only three games in three sets and Simi Valley High defeated Marmonte League rival Camarillo, 13-5, in the second round of the Southern Section Division I girls’ tennis playoffs Monday.
The Pioneers (20-1) and Scorpions (18-3) split in the regular season and tied for the Marmonte League title. Simi Valley plays at Woodbridge in the quarterfinals today.
In other second-round playoff matches:
West Torrance defeated Hart, 12-6, in Division II; in Division III, top-seeded Harvard-Westlake defeated Burbank, 17-1, and Calabasas defeated San Dimas, 15-3, in Division IV.

Senior Kelly Harrington of Louisville High, who finished eighth in the state Division IV cross-country championships last year, will miss the rest of the season with mononucleosis.

Former Chatsworth High and Ventura College basketball star Eddie Miller has signed a letter of intent with Washington State.
The 6-foot-8, 220-pound Miller was most valuable player of the Western State Conference last season at Ventura. He has decided not to play this season while finishing classes at Ventura.

Pepperdine received letters of intent Monday from high school basketball players Craig Lewis, a 6-3 guard from Benson Tech in Portland, Ore., and Brandon Armstrong, a 6-5 guard from Vallejo, Ca. The Waves are committed to an NCAA-limit 13 scholarships for the 1998-99 season.
