BYU’s Edwards Has Surgery for Clots

Brigham Young Coach LaVell Edwards underwent surgery Tuesday to clear clotting in two arteries that were restricting blood flow to his brain. The 67-year-old coach is expected to be released from the hospital today or Thursday. . . . Marshall’s Randy Moss, Florida’s Jaquez Green and Louisiana Tech’s Troy Edwards were selected as finalists for the Biletnikoff Award, given to the nation’s outstanding receiver. . . . Louisiana State guard Alan Faneca and Nebraska linemen Jason Peter and Aaron Taylor are finalists for the Outland Trophy, given to the nation’s best interior lineman. . . . Boston College extended the contract of Coach Tom O’Brien through the 2002 season.
