Bruins Still in Running for Alliance Bowl

UCLA remains on a bowl alliance “protected list” after a conference call Tuesday among the Orange, Sugar and Fiesta bowls in which several schools were eliminated from consideration.

Paul Hoolihan, executive director of the Sugar Bowl, said that UCLA and Arizona State remain in consideration for alliance bowls, along with Florida, Kansas State, North Carolina, Ohio State and Penn State.

The alliance also includes the champions of the Big 12, Big East, Atlantic Coast and Southeastern conferences.

“We’re still proceeding as though UCLA is going to be here,” said Rick Baker, the Cotton Bowl’s executive director, pointing out that the Cotton has sent credential forms to Southern California media and started gathering promotional material on the Bruins.

UCLA’s opponent probably will be Kansas State, but Baker said the Cotton is still looking at Texas A&M.;
