Henry, Goodson Make All-Big Sky Team

Wide receiver Jerome Henry and linebacker Marc Goodson, both Cal State Northridge seniors, were selected to the All-Big Sky Conference football team, it was announced Tuesday.
Another 10 Matadors were picked for the second team or received honorable mention.
Henry led the Matadors with 71 receptions for 827 yards and eight touchdowns despite missing two games because of a broken leg. Goodson had a team-high 140 tackles, including 91 unassisted.
Two seniors, quarterback Aaron Flowers and guard Paul Sauter, were selected to the second team offense. Flowers, who missed three games because of a broken leg, passed for 3,226 yards and 24 touchdowns. Sauter was a fifth-year senior who played mostly at center for the Matadors this season.
Eight Matadors received honorable mention: Sophomore wide receiver Aaron Arnold, junior offensive tackle David San Vicente, senior running backs Jahi Arnold and Norman Clarke, senior defensive tackle Ron Aumua, senior end Dan Lazarovits, junior cornerback Steve Forte and senior cornerback Bennie Herron.
Matador awards: Sixteen Northridge football players received awards at the team’s postseason banquet on Sunday.
Most Valuable Player: quarterback Aaron Flowers (offense), linebacker Marc Goodson (defense) and kicker Manny Marquez (special teams); Coaches’ award: center Paul Sauter; Most Improved: wide receiver Drew Hill (offense) and linebacker Brennen Swanson (defense); Rookie of the Year: guard Tafi Aina (offense) and free safety Jeremy Golden (defense).
Academics and Ability: offensive tackle Jake Brinton; Big Team-Little Me award: linebacker Rob Pifferini; Character award: cornerback Bennie Herron; Strength award: defensive tackle Ron Aumua; Black Shirt Scout Team award: quarterback Marcus Brady (offense) and end John Dagata (defense); Captains’ award: Flowers, Goodson, Sauter, wide receiver Jerome Henry and end Dan Lazarovits.
VOLLEYBALL
Top frosh: Cal State Northridge freshman outside hitter Kristen Sigel was selected the top freshman in the Big Sky Conference and received All-Big Sky honorable mention. The Manhattan Beach native set the single-season school record for digs with 488.
SOCCER
Mountain men: Four players with local ties have been named to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation’s men’s soccer all-conference team.
From UCLA, St. Francis High grad Pete Vagenas was a first-team selection and La Canada native Nick Paneno was honorable mention. Northridge’s Federico Arroyo, from Van Nuys, made first team and Michael Preis of Chatsworth was honorable mention.
