Landmark Seaside Restaurant Closes After Five Decades

Millie Riera’s Seafood Grotto served up its famous crab Louie for the last time Wednesday before closing its doors forever.
Owners of the seaside restaurant in Redondo Beach, which has been struggling financially over the last decade, had hoped to keep Millie’s open until the end of the year. The restaurant, which opened 51 years ago on the waterfront Esplanade, will be bulldozed to make way for a luxury condominium.
“We’ve had a lot of people come back two and three times to revisit Millie’s and be reunited with old friends,” said co-owner Monica Riera Turner. “It’s just time to close. It’s very sad, but it’s very real.”
