Eric Lawlor in his piece “The Pearl in the Crown” (Oct. 12), about the island of Penang off the Malay Peninsula, could also have mentioned that in addition to reaching Penang by bus and plane, one can take a car ferry from the mainland city of Butterworth. There is also a modern, well-appointed train that goes from Kuala Lumpur to Butterworth, with several departures daily.
