Thousand Oaks Team Like a Sisterhood
Thousand Oaks softball Coach Gary Walin has found the perfect recipe for team chemistry, a roster including three sets of sisters.
The Lancers had two sets of sisters last season and advanced to Southern Section Division I semifinals. With three sets this year, who knows how far Thousand Oaks (4-1-1), ranked No. 9 in the region, can go.
“I think the older sisters are good role models for the younger sisters,” Walin said.
Twins Brandi and Lacey Cope, juniors, are the lone returning set. Playing together on the varsity for the first time are senior Shelly Teverbaugh and sophomore Shannon, and senior Colleen Spencer and freshman Michelle.
Fortunately for Walin and the Lancers, sibling rivalry hasn’t been an issue.
“Are you kidding? They’re hugging each other all the time,” Walin said.
“The sisters love each other a lot. If one is struggling at practice, the other one will come up and put an arm around her.”
