Rush-Hour Crashes Injure 4, 1 Seriously

A motorcyclist was seriously hurt and three other drivers sustained minor injuries in back-to-back collisions Tuesday during morning rush hour on Sunset Hills Boulevard, authorities said.
The first collision occurred at 8 a.m. when Denise Prickett, 18, failed to yield and struck motorcyclist Christopher Esseff, 30, at Sunset Hills and Avenida Verano, Deputy Michael Panek said.
Prickett and Esseff, both of Thousand Oaks, were taken to Columbia Los Robles Regional Medical Center, Panek said. Esseff was in serious but stable condition with a broken ankle and clavicle and a punctured lung, said hospital spokeswoman Kris Carraway. Prickett was released after being treated for minor cuts.
The collision forced the closure of a portion of Sunset Hills Boulevard, which caused a traffic backup that contributed to a second crash at 8:15 a.m., said Senior Deputy Lee Morris. Simi Valley resident Janice Rhoades’ vehicle was rear-ended by a car driven by Megan Devers of Moorpark at Sunset Hills and Olsen Road, Deputy Rick Harwood said.
Rhoades and Devers, both 39, were treated for minor cuts and scrapes.
