Russia beat the travel-weary U.S. water polo team, 7-5, to win the French Open in Bordeaux. Jeremy Laster (San Clemente High/Stanford) scored twice for the U.S. Chris Oeding (Corona del Mar/California) had a goal. Goalkeeper Dan Hackett (Irvine High/UCLA) had eight saves.
The U.S. Open International Water Polo Tournament is June 17-21 in Newport Beach. Teams from Yugoslavia, Australia, Canada, Brazil, Mexico and Puerto Rico will compete.
