Fire Damages Portion of Historic Waterworks

A fire damaged the main building of Philadelphia’s Fairmount historic Waterworks, which had recently undergone a multimillion-dollar restoration.
The fire started about 10 a.m. and was brought under control about 2 1/2 hours later. The extent of the damage was not immediately known. No injuries were reported.
The renovations were completed in September.
The waterworks was built in 1815 and was considered the most advanced municipal water system.
