A Cerritos man died Thursday after collapsing while surfing off San Onofre State Beach, authorities said.
Kevin Green, 28, was pronounced dead at San Clemente Hospital and Medical Center shortly after 11 a.m., according to Joseph Luckey, supervising deputy coroner for Orange County.
“We don’t know if he drowned or had a heart attack or what,” Luckey said.
Green was surfing with a friend when he apparently slipped from his board into the water while waiting for a wave, Luckey said.
The friend, who has lifeguard training, managed to slide the unconscious man back onto the board, pull him ashore and attempt to revive him using CPR.
An autopsy is scheduled today, Luckey said.
