Teen Pregnancy Rate Is Declining in the State

Nevada’s teen pregnancy rate continues to drop, and state health officials attribute the decline to education programs.
The teen pregnancy rate in 2000 was 43.2 births per 1,000 girls ages 15 to 17. The year before, it was 48 per 1,000 girls, according to the state health division.
Nevada health officials say the teen pregnancy rate, part of a national trend, has been declining steadily since 1994.
The most recent statistics from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta are from 1997, and they rank Nevada as the third worst in teen pregnancy rates nationwide. Delaware was the worst, with a rate of 89, followed by Texas, with 69.3.
