Bure Comes Back in Style for Panthers

Pavel Bure had two goals and an assist in his return to the lineup, and the Florida Panthers withstood a four-goal third period by the Montreal Canadiens for a 7-5 victory Monday afternoon at Sunrise, Fla.

Bure, back after sitting out five games because of a broken left hand, helped the Panthers end a five-game home losing streak.

Pierre Dagenais, Ivan Novoseltsev, Brad Ference, Viktor Kozlov and Kristian Huselius also scored for the Panthers.

Yanic Perreault ended a 13-game drought by scoring three times for Montreal, which trailed, 4-1, after two periods.

Colorado 3, Buffalo 2--Chris Drury scored the go-ahead goal and had an assist for the Avalanche at Denver.

Adam Foote and Milan Hejduk also scored for Colorado.

Patrick Roy made 26 saves to extend his NHL record for victories to 504.

Curtis Brown and Tim Connolly scored, and Martin Biron stopped 38 shots for Buffalo.

Dallas 5, Columbus 3--Pierre Turgeon had a goal and two assists, and Brenden Morrow scored the go-ahead goal early in the third period at Columbus, Ohio.

Benoit Brunet and Joe Nieuwendyk each had a goal and an assist for Dallas.

The Stars’ Mike Modano scored his 27th goal into an empty net.

Vancouver 7, Carolina 5--Brent Sopel scored twice from 55 feet in the final 7:59 and the Canucks rallied at Raleigh, N.C., to end Carolina’s three-game unbeaten streak.

San Jose 4, Edmonton 3--Scott Hannan scored his first goal of the season midway through the third period, lifting the Sharks at San Jose.

Phoenix 1, Nashville 0--Robert Esche stopped 19 shots for his third career shutout and Sergei Berezin scored at 10:08 of the second period at Nashville, Tenn.

Esche, filling in for injured starter Sean Burke, helped Phoenix stop its six-game winless streak with his first shutout this season.

The Coyotes killed five power-play opportunities.
