Illegal Driver Killed Slamming Into Tree

A Newport Coast man driving with a suspended license was killed and his passenger injured early Friday when his 1996 Corvette struck a tree, police said. Michael Duffy, 44, died at the scene of head injuries. A passenger was treated for a fractured finger. The car was traveling east on San Joaquin Hills Road near Beaulieu about 1:50 a.m., police said.
