Judge Exits Prien Case After Talking With Press

A Riverside County Superior Court judge has dismissed himself from the trial of a Perris woman accused of murdering her infant son by allowing him to ingest methamphetamine.
Edward Webster told attorneys during a Thursday court hearing that he was removing himself because he wrongly discussed the case with a Riverside Press-Enterprise reporter Wednesday.
Webster’s decision was the latest twist in the trial of Amy Leanne Prien. A day earlier, Webster excused a large jury pool because of public comments about the case by prosecutor Allison Nelson. A hearing was scheduled for Tuesday to choose another judge in the case.
