Firms’ Expansion Is Outside the U.S.

“Cause for U.S. Recovery Lacking Effect” (Washington Dispatch, July 11) states, “The problem is that corporate America has shown almost no interest in doing any of these things [investing, expanding and hiring again, setting off an upward spiral of growth].”
This is not the whole picture. U.S. companies are hiring and expanding -- outside the U.S.
Large U.S. companies have no incentives to expand domestic investment and hiring, whether or not they generate profits. Until economists and politicians understand this fact, expect more of the same.
