American GI Drowns as Tank Falls Into Canal

A U.S. soldier drowned when a tank plunged into a canal, the military said. The tank, from the Army’s 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, hit a sand barrier and then dropped into the canal near Fallouja, west of the capital. The man’s name was withheld pending notification of relatives.
In southern Iraq, a Briton was killed by an explosion, the Ministry of Defense said, but it gave no details. It identified the man as Lance Cpl. Jim McCue, 27, of the 7 Air Assault Battalion of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers.
