Moffett Field Hangar Closed Because of PCBs

The giant gray dome at Moffett Field, known as Hangar One, may face demolition over concerns about toxic chemicals, according to officials at NASA/Ames Research Center.
Officials ordered the hangar closed Friday. The historic facility has shown enough evidence of PCBs, or polychlorinated biphenyls, to lead environmental engineers to suggest immediate and drastic action, including possibly tearing it down.
NASA/Ames officials offered two other courses of action -- the toxins could be trapped in a protective sealant, or the materials containing the toxins could be removed and replaced.
