Two Russian intelligence agents convicted by a Qatar court of assassinating a Chechen rebel leader have arrived back in Russia, where the Kremlin requested that they be allowed to serve out their life sentences, the Itar-Tass news agency reported, citing Kremlin sources.
Zelimkhan Yandarbiyev was killed in an explosion Feb. 13 in Doha, Qatar’s capital. A Qatari court had said the killing was carried out with the backing of “Russian leadership.” Moscow denied involvement and the agents had pleaded not guilty.
