A state senator is planning to propose a law requiring California cities and counties to disclose the exact salaries of public employees.
Sen. Tom Torlakson (D-Antioch) said Wednesday that he would introduce a bill in December to remove impediments to revealing such salaries.
Torlakson said he decided to sponsor the bill after reading recent Contra Costa Times stories.
The newspaper sued Oakland in Alameda County Superior Court after the city refused to release the names and salaries of employees paid more than $100,000.
