A May 26 letter claims the Social Security system to be a Ponzi scheme that will self-destruct. The writer needs enlightenment. If Social Security is destroyed, it will not be because today’s worker contributions go to yesteryear’s retirees (as was intended). Its destruction instead will come from legislators who use the ongoing contributions to finance tax cuts for the wealthy instead of saving them for future retirees.
