The county Board of Supervisors has unanimously selected longtime county lawyer Raymond G. Fortner Jr. as its top legal advisor.
The decision Tuesday comes days after Dist. Atty. Steve Cooley found that the board -- proceeding on Fortner’s advice -- illegally discussed shutting the trauma center at Martin Luther King Jr./Drew Medical Center at two September meetings closed to the public.
In making its announcement to appoint Fortner, 60, the board noted he would retire as county counsel in early 2006.
