Troubled Busway

Re “Valley Busway Project Is Months Behind,” Sept. 11: It seems the San Fernando Valley’s Orange Line busway will be unsafe, slow and a waste of money. At many points, this concrete ribbon cuts across major streets right next to the intersection where cars must wait for a red light. Will the message “Keep Clear” painted on the street be sufficient to prevent a 45-mile-per-hour bus from hitting traffic? And even if all motorists always kept the path clear (unlikely), wouldn’t the bus have to slow to a crawl to make sure it was safe? Or stop entirely until the overflow traffic moved? This project has major flaws and should be reexamined.
