A Qantas jet carrying 178 passengers and 13 crew made an emergency landing and was evacuated at Japan’s Osaka airport after a faulty signal indicated there was smoke in its cargo hold, the carrier said.
Nine people were injured as they evacuated the Airbus A330 plane by sliding down chutes, Qantas Airways Ltd. said in a statement. The injured were taken to a hospital for treatment but there was no immediate word on their condition.
The plane was on its way from Tokyo to the western Australian city of Perth when it diverted to Osaka.
