Sharks Win in Thornton Debut

Joe Thornton had two assists in his debut with San Jose, setting up Jonathan Cheechoo twice, and the Sharks ended a 10-game losing streak Friday night with a 5-0 victory over the Buffalo Sabres at Buffalo.

Dallas 5, Carolina 4 -- Mike Modano scored the shootout winner and added two goals in regulation, stopping a nine-game scoring drought and sending the Stars past the Hurricanes at Dallas.

Tampa Bay 3, Chicago 2 -- Brad Richards scored the deciding goal in a shootout at Tampa, Fla., and goalie John Grahame won his seventh decision in a row for the Lightning.
