Flyers Beat Flames in Shootout, 1-0

Mike Richards scored the lone goal and Philadelphia goaltender Antero Niittymaki was perfect through regulation, overtime and the shootout to lift the Flyers to a 1-0 home victory over the Calgary Flames on Tuesday.
It was the NHL’s first scoreless game decided by shootout.
Niittymaki made 28 saves through regulation and five minutes of overtime, and Calgary’s Miikka Kiprusoff stopped 37 regular shots.
Detroit 5, New Jersey 2 -- The Red Wings’ Brendan Shanahan had two goals and moved into 15th place on the NHL’s career list at Detroit. Viktor Kozlov and Zach Parise scored for the Devils, who had won four of five.
New York Islanders 6, St. Louis 3 -- The Islanders’ Mike York scored two goals and added three assists for his second career five-point game at St. Louis.
Keith Tkachuk had a goal and two assists for St. Louis.
San Jose 5, Atlanta 3 -- Joe Thornton assisted on his new team’s first goal, then scored later in the opening period to lead the Sharks to their third straight win in his home debut.
