Re “Elephants’ Elbow Room Is Big Issue,” Dec. 14
The elephants at the Los Angeles Zoo need to be given more space and, even more important, sanctuary in a place where they could roam freely. It is inhumane for people to use these wonderful pachyderms for their own viewing pleasure, as each has been relegated to a life sentence with no reprieve.
What does this really tell our children who come to see these elephants? Now is the time to think of these great mammals and their needs, not ours. Is every animal to be used for man’s entertainment, or do we see each as part of the world we all inhabit?
