A police sergeant who was caught taking merchandise from a closed cookie shop has returned to work.
Hector Esparza was demoted to the rank of officer in the Police Department of this Bay Area city.
Seven other officers had two-week suspensions reduced to one-day suspensions after administrative appeals hearings this month.
The officers were caught on video in a mall taking drinks from a soda fountain at a Mrs. Fields Original Cookie store July 15. They had been looking for a burglar who had allegedly fired shots at a security guard.
