Savoring a vestige of old Norway

“OF the five B&Bs; my husband and I stayed at during our 16-day trip to Scandinavia in August, Tone’s Bed & Breakfast in Stavanger, Norway, was the best. In a quaint city once known as the capital of canned sardines, the Swiss-style house that dates to 1894 has three bedrooms -- two doubles at $68 each and one single at $45 -- with a shared bathroom, which has a raised bathtub and private shower stall. Owner Tone Bourrec set out a wonderful breakfast of fresh bread, Jarlsberg cheese, two kinds of goat cheeses, Parma ham, a soft-boiled egg or yogurt, three kinds of jams and coffee or tea. Great way to start the day.”
