Waiting and then fuming at the airport
BEFORE departing LAX for a trip to London, I allowed four hours for check-in. It seemed excessive, but I was prepared for anything. I checked in at the British Airways counter, and after a brief computer glitch, it took about five minutes or less. Then I was told I should take my luggage to the screening area around the corner.
There were hundreds of people there from international flights having their luggage screened. There was no one there to guide us. It took me about one hour to get through that process.
After the screening, each piece of luggage must be returned to the airline with which you are flying. The agents who do that job wait until they have several pieces for a particular airline before they take the bags. After waiting for about 20 minutes, I requested that my luggage be delivered to the airline as departure time was nearing. An extremely disgruntled and bored Transportation Security Administration employee brought my luggage out. His rudeness was unbelievable.
The long lines at LAX were bad enough, but it was the indifference and rudeness of the TSA staff that everyone was talking about.
