An empire that keeps growing
If the success of Adolfo Suaya is any indication, good prices and value can build an empire. It all started in 1986 with the Gaucho Grill on Sunset Boulevard, where Suaya served up fab food at fair prices. He now owns eight Gaucho Grills and a real estate company, and his stake in Hollywood nightlife keeps growing. Among his ventures: Dolce, Geisha House and the upcoming Bella, an Italian-themed spot set to open next month near Hollywood and Las Palmas. Also stationed near that corner is the new Rokbar, a rock ‘n’ roll-inspired joint co-owned by Tommy Lee and a Miami group. The June 30 opener brought out Lee, Pamela Anderson and Courtney Love. Moreover, Suaya is designing the upcoming L’ Scorpion, a dark tequila-and-tapas bar, also in that vicinity. Suaya says Anderson is launching Black Steel, a French-Cali restaurant and lounge opening about the same time as Bella.

Recalling Prohibition
Steve Adelman, co-owner of Avalon and the Spider Club, is opening a new Hollywood hang, 86, in early October. Adelman says he can’t disclose the location yet but adds the place will have the feel of a speak-easy. “The theme is Prohibition, early jazz and dining,” he says.... Two new club openings tonight: Urb Magazine is behind Loose Tooth, a DJ-driven affair at Forbidden City. And revelers will be checking out Pantera Sarah’s new Thursday night gala at Cabana Club (formerly Sunset Club).... And Friday night you can get a crash course in clubbing at Skylight Books in Los Feliz, where veteran doorman Clint Catalyst teaches a session called “Club Door Etiquette for the Nightlife Challenged.” Sign me up.
