Pacino to star in L.A. workshop

Al Pacino will star in a pre-Broadway workshop production of Lyle Kessler’s “Orphans” at the 99-seat Greenway Court Theatre on Fairfax Avenue, just a few blocks from where “Orphans” premiered in 1983 at the Matrix Theatre. He’ll play a shady businessman kidnapped by two brothers.
Whether tickets will be sold to the September workshop or whether it will be attended on an invitation-only basis still hasn’t been decided, said co-producer Fred Zollo. He said that an L.A. workshop fits well with the schedules of Pacino and director Ulu Grosbard, and he praised the size of the Greenway Court stage. Other casting is still in progress.
