A cowboy cacophony
Ventura’s Olivas Adobe, a historical structure and rancho grounds built in the mid-1800s, will provide the setting for “Cowboys, Heroes & Outlaws: Passport to the American West.” The living history festival is replete with ambient cacophonies of early California: blacksmithing, gunfighters and other reenactments, plus traditional Chumash Indian, Mexican and cowboy song and dance. Among the historical figures to be portrayed: Butch Cassidy, Jesse James, Annie Oakley and Joaquin Murieta. Workshop-styled demonstrations will let families try their hand at making tortillas, carving, churning butter, quilting and other period activities.
