Update -- Los Angeles may be catching a team it is tied with in the Western Conference standings at a good time since Minnesota had to play first-place Sacramento on Friday. The Lynx, who lost to the Monarchs, 67-50, beat L.A. in May, but the Sparks are now showing confidence and consistency in the new offense. In the recent wins over Sacramento and Houston, the Sparks shot 55.2% and 65.5%. Minnesota’s Katie Smith, who was limited to three points Friday, had been the top scorer in the league through Thursday, averaging 20.3 points. L.A.’s Chamique Holdsclaw replaced her in first with a 20.0 average.
